A Corpus Christi man, 22, is behind bars at Nueces County Jail on Monday after causing a two-vehicle accident on Saturday night.

The man was speeding in his Pontiac Firebird when he struck the back of a slower going work truck, according to police. The impact sent the work truck careening into two light poles and the Firebird caught fire near a Corpus Christi fire station.

The fire was put out quickly and the driver displayed signs of being under the influence, according to police. Police forcefully restrained him to transport him to the hospital, after he refused to have his blood drawn.

He is being held on a $1000 bond for driving while under the influence. He will remain in jail due to five felony warrants for possession of a controlled substance.
