A 61-year-old man, of Dixon, was killed and three others were injured in a one vehicle roll-over accident on U.S. Highway 59, about a mile north of Ganado on Sunday.

The man was driving his Chevy Suburban when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer that ran out in front of his vehicle, according to the Department of Public Safety in Corpus Christi.

He swerved a second time causing the vehicle to skid across the highway and roll over several times before coming to rest on the side of the road.

The man and a 6-year-old passenger, both not wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the vehicle in the crash. He was pronounced dead at Citizen’s Medical Center. The girl was treated for a broken collarbone and arm.

Two other passengers, both wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, were treated for minor injuries and released.
