Baby Appleseed, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of certain Davenport crib models because they fail to meet federal safety standards.

The recalled cribs have two mattress support systems. The secondary support system, used for the lowest mattress position, does not meet the 26 inch minimum height in its lowest setting, posing a fall hazard should small children crawl over the railing.

To date, the company has not received any reports of injury.

The recall includes Davenport crib models that start with the numbers 273-xxxx-xxxx, with manufacture dates on or before August 2007. A label with the date codes and model numbers can be found on the lower panel of the crib. ALL other Davenport cribs are not included in the recall.

Consumers are advised not to use the recalled cribs in the lowest position, which uses the wooden support system and to contact Baby Appleseed for a free repair kit.

Consumers who currently using the metal mattress support in the top or middle setting can continue to use the crib while waiting for the repair kit to arrive. (Please Note: Repair kits will be available mid-August 2008).
