Children's Hooded Sweatshirts Recalled Due To Strangulation Hazard

Allura Imports Inc. announced a voluntary recall of about 3,700 Girls hooded sweatshirts because they have drawstrings through the hoods which pose a strangulation hazard to children.

To this date, the company has not received any reports of injury associated with the recall.

The sweatshirts, available in khaki, ivory pink, light pink, are velour and have a zip front. They were sold in a two-piece set with “Major Diva” printed on the front.

The recalled clothing was sold at Burlington Coat Factory stores nationwide from October 2008 through July 2009.

Boy’s Warm-up Sets Recalled

KT Group Inc., is also recalling velour warm-up sets due to a strangulation hazard posed by drawstrings through the hood.

The recalled clothing has the name “Beverly Hills Polo Club on the center back neck. They were also sold at Burlington Coat Factory.

Halloween Themed Flashlights Recalled By Target Due To Burn Hazard

Target stores, in cooperation with the CPSC, announced a voluntary recall of Halloween Flashlights because they can overheat and melt, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

To this date, Target has received eight reports of the flashlights overheating and melting, including one report of burns to the hand.

Two types of Halloween-themed flashlights are included in the recall: mini flashlights and flashlights sold with stencils. More details and product examples can be found on the CPSC Web site.

The flashlights were sold at Target stores nationwide from August 2009 through September 2009.

Consumers should stop using the recalled items and return them to any Target store for a refund.

OfficeMax Chairs Recalled Due To Fall Hazard

OfficeMax announced a voluntary recall of Task Chairs because the base post can break while in use, posing a fall hazard.

To date, the company has received 36 reports of the posts breaking on the chair, including 15 reports of injuries involving muscle strains, contusions and concussions.

The recall involves 216,000 OfficeMax Chairs with model numbers OM182 and OM96614. The chairs were sold at OfficeMax stores nationwide, on the company’s Web site and in their product catalogs from September 2003 to July 2008.

Consumers can take the recalled chairs to any OfficeMax for a refund (with receipt) or $55 gift card (non-receipt returns).

Circo Booster Seats Recalled By Target

Target has issued a recall of Circo Booster Seats because the restraint buckle can unexpectedly open, posing a fall hazard.

To date, the company has received eight reports of the buckle breaking, including three reports of children suffering bruises.

The recall includes Circo Booster Seats with the following manufacture date codes: XJ0811, XJ0812, XJ0901, and XJ0902 which were sold exclusively at Target. The seats are blue with green trim and have white straps.

Consumers should stop using the seat and return it to the nearest Target store for a full refund.

Electronic Plush Toys Recalled By LeapFrog

LeapFrog Enterprises is voluntarily recalling My Pal Scout Electronic Plush Toy Dogs because the decals on the paws of the toy can be removed and ingested, posing a choking hazard to small children.

To date, the company has received two reports of children removing the decals from these items. One report included a child ingesting part of the decal.

My Pal Scout, with green and beige electronic plush dogs with decals on its paws are included in the recall. “LeapFrog Ent. Item No. 19142” is printed on the white tag attached to the toy.

Consumers should take the recalled toys from small children and contact the company for a free replacement toy.

Viking Recalls Built-In Refrigerators Due to Injury Hazard

Viking Range Corp. has voluntarily recalled 45,000 of Viking Built-In Side-by-Side Refrigerator/Freezers and Refrigerators with Bottom Freezers because the doors can detach, posing an injury hazard.

The company has received 57 reports of the doors detaching, including four reports of injuries that involved bruises, strains and broken toes and fingers. There have also been several reports of minor floor and counter damage.

Build-A-Bear Workshop Recalls Folding Toy Beach Chairs

Build-A-Bear Workshop, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, announced a recall of Folding Toy Beach Chairs for Stuffed Animals. The toy chairs can pinch, bruise or cut fingers if caught between the folding legs.

To date there has been eight reports of injury associated with the recalled products.

The recall includes toy beach chairs with wooden frames and canvas seats. Some styles also include an attached pillow.

The toy chairs are blue (style #’s 002281, 004463, 009907, 011565, 102281, 109907, 111565), red (style #’s 007391, 011566, 107391, 111566), fuchsia/white stripe (style #’s 013226, 113226), Orange/white stripe (style #’s 013227, 113227).

Consumers should take the recalled items from small children and return them to any Build-A-Bear Workshop store for an $8 USD / $10 CDN coupon.

Wal-Mart Recalls Women's Shoes Due To Fall Hazard

Wal-Mart Stores, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voluntarily recalled 200,000 pairs of Women’s Shoes made by Joyfair Footwear because the heels can detach, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

To date, the company has not received any reports of injury involving the recalled product.

The shoe recall includes women’s sling-back, pointed shoes under the George brand, sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide.

The agency advises consumers to stop wearing the shoes and return them to the nearest Wal-Mart store for a full refund.

Kidde Recalls Fire Extinguishers Due To Failure To Operate

Kidde, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC,) announced a recall to replace certain XL Fire Extinguisher units because they may lose pressure faster than others and fail to operate in the event of a fire, therefore posing risk to the consumer and property.

To date, the company has not received any reports of injury associated with the recalled fire extinguishers.

The recall includes Kidde XL Fire Extinguishers with model numbers: FX340SC, FX340H, FX340GW, XL5MR, FX210R, FX340SC-2, FX210W, XL2.5TCZ-4, E-340-3 and with manufacture dates between October 2007 and April 2008.

The CPSC recommends consumers inspect the pressure gauge. If it points to the red zone, contact Kidde as soon as possible to receive a free replacement extinguisher.

Toy Construction Play Sets Recalled For Lead Violation

DDI Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled approximately 3,000 Construction Play Sets because the surface paint on the toys contains lead.

Exposure to lead has been shown to cause brain and kidney damage, especially in children.

To date, the company has not received any reports of injury.

The toy recalls involves 136-piece Mega Construction Play Sets –- Item No. 911346 -– and includes various other toy construction equipment, buildings, roads and vehicles.

The toys were sold nationwide from October 2008 to November 2008, for $20.

Consumers are advised to take the recalled toys away from small children immediately and to contact the company to receive a full refund.
