OfficeMax announced a voluntary recall of Task Chairs because the base post can break while in use, posing a fall hazard.

To date, the company has received 36 reports of the posts breaking on the chair, including 15 reports of injuries involving muscle strains, contusions and concussions.

The recall involves 216,000 OfficeMax Chairs with model numbers OM182 and OM96614. The chairs were sold at OfficeMax stores nationwide, on the company’s Web site and in their product catalogs from September 2003 to July 2008.

Consumers can take the recalled chairs to any OfficeMax for a refund (with receipt) or $55 gift card (non-receipt returns).

Consumer Information: Contact OfficeMax at (800) 283-7674 anytime, or visit www.officemax.com

The recall was announced in cooperation with the U.S. Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
